I'm running Ubuntu 9.10, and for the last week have been having problems with Gnome. The latest is with the CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor applet. I'm running version 2.28.0, and both CPUs are pegged at 100% usage all the time. But if I run System Monitor or Top, the idle usage is <10%.

FWIW, the system is slow, and performance currently sucks. This is all new since the Gnome problems began.

Is there a way to clean house on Gnome, without doing a complete system install?
