Since I have activated the option 'compositing_manager' in gconf-editor (apps > metacity > general), switching to applications using Alt-Tab is very slow. I need the compositing manager for cairo-dock and I don't want to disable it. It is slow since the option was activated.

The problem, I think, it is since I have activated this option, is that the panel that appears when I am using Alt-Tab is now giving preview of all windows. I don't need this preview and I would like to deactivate it to gain speed.

I don't want to activate the graphics acceleration of my card because it makes my machine crash.

I have the option 'reduced_resources' set in gconf-editor at the same location but in this case, it is not helping.

How can I return to old application switcher while keeping the compositing manager?
