I'm using Gnome and Fedora 11 on my desktop. As I'm involved in several distributed-computing projects via BOINC, it's on 24/7 and only gets rebooted for kernel updates, power failures or hardware issues and I rarely log out unless either something's gotten X hung or there's an update that needs it. However, when I do reboot or log out and in, the odds are that all of the icons on my desktop will be scrambled, and I'll need to move them all back to where I want them. Does anybody know what causes this and/or how to stop it without nuking ~/.gnome* and starting over? I've spent enough time and effort getting things exactly how I want them that I'd rather not go to that extreme to fix this.
